Winter Playtime

My absolute favorite piece of all, Winter Playtime was painstakingly (involving literal physical pain here) painted with watercolors. This is a Shih Tzu, and his name is Boston. He is my little baby boy (and his sister is cute as can be as well). Here's my little Boston, having a great time in the snowy woodlands of the north :)

Meditation

PLEASE EXCUSE THE UGLY WATERMARK. I KNOW it's horrible, but I am unable to correct the issue at this time!

This was actually my first piece of the semester. This is my take on Spirituality. Cookies for the person who recognizes what religion I'm referring to :)

I adore the way the watercolors behaved on this piece :)

All from Love

My second favorite piece of the semester, this image of this pair of "love cardinals" was done on a scratchboard. Love is always in the air!

Poppy Series

These images are part of my Poppy trio. This was another assignment from my illustration class. We had to illustrate scenes from a book we liked, and I chose "Poppy" by Avi. Overall I adore how these images came out, even if they could use a bit of touching up!

Stewards of the Earth

This was an illustration in reaction to an article on Finnish Fur Farms. This can be said of ALL fur farms though.

"Stewards of the Earth" is from Christian text. I chose to use those words in the image to expose the hypocrites of that particular religion, though I feel it applies to ALL religions and ALL people. These people that torture the animals on fur farms (slaughter houses, puppy mills, and others too) and hypocrites of whatever religion they belong to. Most (if not all) major religions have a bit about animals in them, whether it is to protect them or to be kind to them. I'm not saying the people of Christianity or other religions are hypocrites; I'm saying the people who follow any of those religions and commit horrible acts upon animals are hypocrites.

In the image, the fox is alive, but just barely. The left paw is still raised up to show this fact, and the mouth is slightly open as well to show some life is still left. Keep in mind that many animals are skinned alive on fur farms. This is reality, a sick, disgusting reality.

Why a Christian quote? Because Finland is a Christian country.

(Please excuse the shitty crop job ^^;)

Interconnected

This is 1/2 of my "Celebrity Portrait and Animal". In this image I chose Sri Anandamayi, pairing her with a Peacock. Peacocks take away negativity and replace it with goodness, and for their deeds they become the most beautiful. In this image there are a few different yet interconnected concepts at play: the Peacock symbolizing spirituality, purification, and incorruptability, the Om, and the subtle use of the Yin Yang, symbolized by Sri Anandamayi and the Peacock.

Sri Anandamayi Ma was (and is) a spiritual guru for many thousands of people in India and around the world. Words cannot describe how wonderful this woman was and is, nor can they encompass the impact she has had on so many lives. She was always "the same" no matter what happened, and did not let outside factors affect her and throw her off. As quoted from Anandamayi Ma,

"My consciousness has never associated itself with this temporary body. Before I came on this earth 'I was the same'. As a little girl 'I was the same'. .......... Ever afterward, though the dance of creation change around me, in the hall of eternity 'I shall be the same'.

Family Men

This is 2/2 of my "Celebrity Portrait with Animal" project. For this one I chose Adam Sandler.

I paired Sandler with a Labrador Retriever puppy. Labs, like Sandler himself, are very devoted family dogs and love their families very much. They can also be quite silly and funny, just like Sandler. I feel this pairing is perfect, as the two reflect one another very well.

And yes, Sandler's head is supposed to be exaggerated the way it is.
